In recent years, the Republic of Moldova has clearly and firmly expressed its determination to become a member of the European Union. This is an ambitious national objective that requires the mobilization of all public authorities, as well as the active participation of citizens. Sweden\u2019s own experience confirms that local public authorities play an important role in this process. Without autonomous and resilient local authorities, possessing strong capacity to respond to citizens\u2019 needs through the provision of high-quality and efficient public services, European integration cannot realistically move forward.<\/p>

We greatly appreciate the Republic of Moldova\u2019s openness to strengthening the capacities of local public authorities and to learning from the experience of European Union Member States. The experience of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), one of the oldest and strongest associations of local governments in the world, represents a valuable resource for Moldovan local authorities striving to become more resilient and effective in transposing European standards at community level, thereby contributing to improving citizens\u2019 quality of life.<\/p>

The challenges faced by local public authorities in the Republic of Moldova on the path toward European integration are diverse, ranging from enhancing transparency in administrative processes and aligning public procurement procedures, to improving waste management, environmental protection, ensuring access to safe drinking water and sanitation infrastructure, as well as promoting mobility and social inclusion. Each of these areas requires a comprehensive approach, grounded in local realities and aligned with the genuine needs of communities.<\/p>

The extensive experience and capacities of Swedish municipalities, together with the expertise of SALAR International and SALAR\u2014built through engagement in strengthening local public administration in more than 50 countries\u2014represent a valuable asset for Moldovan local authorities.<\/p>

Through the Moldovan\u2013Swedish PACE Local project, we aim to support local authorities in understanding the complexity of European structures, leveraging innovative solutions, adopting European procedures and requirements across various sectors, developing national and international partnerships, as well as effectively promoting and defending community interests in dialogue with central authorities and European partners.<\/p>

The Swedish model of decentralized governance, characterized by strong and autonomous municipalities, can serve as an important benchmark for the Republic of Moldova in the process of strengthening local public administration and steadily advancing on the path of European integration.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
